Whether the words make you giggle or blush or roll your eyes, this zine provides a thorough introduction to willow basket weaving so you'll learn exactly how to identify a thick rod compared to a slender weaver, and you'll learn how to use them.

For absolute beginners: You will learn how to weave a small basket using willow you'll gather from around where you live. You'll learn about where willow grows, when to cut it, and how to gather it with care so you don't harm the stand. Then you'll learn how to make a small oblong basket, guided by clear instructions and full-colour photos. No experience required. Just willow, your hands, and your growing familiarity with the nature around you and a craft that's been passed from person to person for thousands of years.

About the author: Freyja Ulveland is a basketry artist and teacher based in Alberta. She weaves with willow, cattail, bark, and other plants gathered close to home, allowing the fibres themselves to guide the form and character of each piece. Her practice has been shaped by the generosity of women who have carried basketry in Alberta, sharing not only techniques but a spirit of care and connection. Alongside her studio practice, she teaches workshops designed to inspire creativity and connection, continually learning alongside her students.
